Retake policy
The HSPT may be taken only once, and only by 8th graders; the archdiocese says it cannot be repeated under any circumstances. A yearly make-up date exists for weather or illness, but it is not a retake. source
How scores are used
Required of every 8th grader applying to a Catholic high school in the archdiocese. High schools use it for admission, scholarship selection, and course placement, each under its own guidelines. Scores are reported as national percentile ranks for the five subtests and the composite. source
Scholarships
The archdiocese states high schools use the HSPT in scholarship selection. Thresholds and award amounts are set by each school and are not published archdiocese-wide. source
Score reporting
Parents choose an electronic or printed score report at registration and should expect it within about a month of the test date (STS says 3–5 weeks after the last scheduled Baltimore test date). Chosen high schools receive scores directly from STS. source
